Como parte del proyecto Cristo: Rey de las naciones, en ésta ocasión se describe la nación de Benín.
Benín es una nación tropical ubicada al oeste de África, su principal fuente de ingresos depende de la agricultura, la esperanza de vida es de 53 años. El promedio de hijos por mujer es de 5.
Benín cubre aproximadamente un área de 112.622 kilómetros cuadrados, con una población de aproximadamente 9 millones de personas. Para efectos comparativos, su superficie y su número de habitantes son similares a los de Honduras. Limita con el Océano Atlántico en el sur, Níger y Burkina Faso en el norte, Nigeria en el este y Togo en el oeste.
HISTORIA
La República de Benín es el resultado artificial de la expansión colonial francesa, que unió los antiguos reinos del pueblo fon (Dahomey y Porto Novo) con numerosos pueblos del interior, formando la colonia de Dahomey. La República de Benín se independizó completamente de Francia el 1 de agosto de 1960.
RELIGIÓN
Un 25% de los habitantes de Benín son católicos, mientras que 15% pertenecen a otras profesiones cristianas incluyendo bautistas, metodistas e independientes. El segundo grupo en importancia son los musulmanes con más de un 24% de la población. Y aproximadamente otro 25% se adhiere a creencias africanas tradicionales como el vudú. Además, muchos seguidores del cristianismo y el Islam también incluyen algunos elementos de creencias tradicionales en sus prácticas.
MOTIVOS DE ORACIÓN
Que Dios levante hombres santos y de sana doctrina que entreguen su vida a servir a Cristo en este país donde abunda el misticismo y la ignorancia respecto al evangelio bíblico.
Agradecer al Señor por la pequeña semilla del evangelio que esta germinando no solo en Benín sino en toda África.
