En las últimas décadas se ha vuelto más común escuchar a los teólogos y pastores evangélicos influenciados por la nueva hermenéutica o el liberalismo hablar sobre “redefiniciones”, es decir, la necesidad de ajustar las doctrinas y conceptos bíblicos a los contextos culturales y sociales en los cuales cada iglesia se desenvuelve.
Esto ha conducido a muchas iglesias y seminarios evangélicos a re-definir conceptos o doctrinas fundamentales como el rol de las mujeres en la iglesia y la sociedad, el cesacionismo, y últimamente, el matrimonio.
Pero, creo que si esto debe ser así, entonces las Sagradas Escrituras nos deben dar ejemplo de cómo se debe redefinir según el contexto. Creo que el mejor ejemplo de estas redefiniciones es Cristo. Cuando él vino a esta tierra se encontró con una nación nominalmente creyente y “sujeta” a la Ley de Dios. Los judíos habían dado su redefinición del matrimonio, considerándolo como un contrato entre un hombre y una mujer que se podía romper prácticamente por cualquier razón.
Cuando ellos le preguntaron a Jesús sobre el tema del matrimonio y el divorcio, Jesús lo re-definió, pero no para adaptarse a la cultura en la que estaba inmerso, sino para re-formarlo, es decir, para que el matrimonio volviera a ser considerado como Dios lo consideró desde el principio. Jesús no se fue al contexto en el cual vivía, sino al contexto original, tal y como Dios lo diseñó. Leamos lo que él dice: “No habéis leído que el que los hizo al principio, varón y hembra los hizo” (Mt. 19:4).
Esta debe ser la actitud de todo teólogo, pastor o creyente. Si necesitamos redefinir algo, debe ser volviendo a la definición original que Dios dio en las Sagradas Escrituras, y no, conforme los hombres lo han tergiversado en el transcurrir de los años.
